Synopsis: SEATRU Volunteer Program was initiated in 1998 to assist long-term sea turtle conservation at Chagar Hutang, Redang Island. It was introduced by the founders of SEATRU, Prof.Dr.Chan Eng Heng and Assoc.Prof. Liew Hock Chark. This was the first program ever introduced in Malaysia to involve the public in hands-on sea turtle conservation and the long-term conservation programs run by SEATRU. Activities designed for this program are very similar to those of other sea turtle conservation program throughout the world. More than 3,000 volunteers have participated in this program over the years. Participants have been a mix of local and international volunteers, with the majority being college and university students.
